1. Lotos LTP5000D 50Amp Non-Touch Pilot Arc Plasma Cutter, Dual Voltage 110V/220V, 1/2 Inch Clean Cut
The LTP5000D pilot arc plasma cutter from Lotos costs 1/3 of the price than you would normally spend on tools like these. It’s small, portable and does the job. Rated to cut ½ inch steel, this machine really does a clean cut.
This isn’t Hyperthem quality plasma cutter, so don’t get your hopes up. If you want to get it, purchase it for home use only. Under the right circumstances, this tool can outperform most other plasma cutters at the same price tag.
You can easily work with rusted, perforated or painted materials. Thanks to its efficient power inverter, it can generate maximum power output with minimal weight. The whole cutter weighs in at around 22lbs.
You can set this unit up for both 220v and 110c. The consumables can be bought from Lotos, or if you want to save a few bucks, you can find third-party tools at eBay.
Do keep in mind that you will need a decent air compressor. Shop models will do great. However, smaller models will struggle to try to keep up with this machine. Also, this machine can chew through your consumables fast. Keep some extras with you.
2. Lotos CT520D Plasma Cutter Tig Stick Welder 3 in 1 Combo Welding Machine, 50Amp Air Plasma Cutter, 200A TIG/Stick Welder, Dual Voltage 220V/110V
Plasma cutting, Tig welding, and MMA/Stick welding. A 3 in 1 Combo from Lotos. This multipurpose machine is a dream come true for hobbyist and DIY enthusiasts. It’s small and portable and weighs about 32lbs.
200 AMP of TIG/Stick welder, 50 AMP of air plasma cutter with dual voltage capability. Now that’s what you call a multipurpose tool. The max severance thickness of this tool is ¾ inch with a max cut thickness of ½ inch.
For portability, it has an easy grip handle. The Lotos CT520D uses safe non-hazardous compressed air to cut stainless steel, mild steel, alloy steel, aluminum, and copper. Like the LTP5000D, you will need a decent air compressor for it.
The TIG welder is good for both foot pedal and hand torch welding. It can also deliver 12 to 200 amp of welding for precise welding of thinner gauge materials. It comes with a WP17 tig torch but has a lousy hose.
It doesn’t have all the features you want in a tig welder, but you can get by with what you’ll be paying for. You’ll also need to buy the pedal, 120 plugs (pigtail) and a separate ground cable. The quality of the additional stuff seems cheap though.
3. Lotos LT3500 35Amp Air Plasma Cutter, 2/5 Inch Clean Cut, 110V/120V Input with Pre Installed NPT Quick Connector, Portable & Easy Quick Setup Metal Cutter
This powerful and compact plasma cutter can easily cut 10 mm metal. Given a cheap price tag, the Lotos LT3500 is no joke. Weighing in at only 18lbs, this tool makes a great choice for light small-time projects.
It’s very easy to set up and comes with pre-installed NPT quick connector. The 1/4” pre-installed NPT easily allows you to connect to your air compressor by making quick use of the stand coupler that exists on your air compressor.
The Lotos LT3500 plasma cutter uses safe environment-friendly compressed air that is suitable for cutting Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Alloy Steel, Aluminum, Copper, etc. The max severance thickness of this tool is 3/5 inch with a max cut thickness of 2/5 inch.
It’s almost similar to the Lotos LT3200 except the LT3500 has a higher amperage range up to 35 Amp under 110 V. Your air compressor should be larger than 4.0 scfrm @75 PSI for this tool to function properly.
The ground cable is very short which is no more than 6ft. The cable itself is very thin. Consider getting a 20ft third party cable. The consumables are a little bit on the expensive side, but you can get third party ones at a lower price on eBay.
The Non-Touch Pilot Arc technology of this plasma cutter can efficiently cut through rusted, painted and rough surfaces while producing minimal slag. While the non-touch technology can cut without touching the tip of the metal but can chew through consumables pretty fast.
Thanks to its built-in german cooling system, it has a duty cycle of 60% at 80 A output and 100% duty cycle at 60 A output. Unlike the other cutters on this list, this one can take a beating. It’s meant for heavy-duty continuous use.
This machine has a max rated clean cut thickness of 1 inch and max severance thickness of 1 & ½ inch. Because of the high-frequency start arc, you can do cleaner cut without having to spend extra hours on cleaning.
The LTP8000 makes an ideal choice for auto body work repairs, farm works, factory maintenance and fabrication work. It’s suitable for cutting alloy steel, stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, and copper, etc.
It weighs in at45 lbs. Not the ideal hand carrying weight but I don’t think you need to move it too much. This machine comes with a handle for portability. Keep in mind that you should use it for 220 V power outlet only.
5. Lotos Technology 04-ZVGR-0O8D Lotos LTPDC2000D Plasma Cutter Tig Stick Welder 3 in 1 Combo Welding Machine
If you are tired of switching from plasma cutter to welding machine, this might just be the perfect tool for you. The Lotos LTPDC2000D is a multipurpose 3 in 1 combo welding machine. You get three for the price of one. What’s more is that the LTPDC2000D is portable too.
Three functions packed into one small form factor. a 200 A DC TIG Welder, a 50 A Pilot Arc Plasma Cutter, a 200 A Stick Welder all of these with the flip of a switch. The 50A pilot arc plasma cutting function is able to cut different types of metal up to 1/2-inch.
It’s mainly designed for DIY users and businesses. Max clean cut thickness rated at ½’ and max severance thickness is ¾’. The DC TIG Output Current is 10-200 A @ 220 V & 10-150 A @ 110 V and the DC Stick/MMA Output Current is 0-200 A @ 220 V & 10-150 A @ 110 V.
The dual voltage capability of this machine allows you to run directly on 110 V 50/60 Hz, or on 220 V 50/60 Hz power with the use of pigtail. Do keep in mind that you need to purchase the pigtail separately.
The Lotos LTPDC2000D doesn’t have any built-in compressor. This should serve as a great beginner experience if you are new to this field. The consumables are a little bit on the expensive side. Do keep that in mind if you decide to purchase this one.
Lotos Plasma Cutter Buying Guide & Know How’s
Well, if you are in the search for a portable and dependable tool without breaking your bank, then Lotos is the best option out there. Now, certain confusion may arise because there are a lot of variation and models out there.
To put it simply, The Lotos LTP5000D wins in my vote. Power, versatility, portability, durability and price, the Lotos LTP5000D looked promising in all of these categories.
Why Should You Buy?
Lotos welding machine and plasma cutters are an affordable alternative to much expensive high-end models. These tools can perform most general cutting tasks. Depending on the material and application, these tools can cut from ½ inch to ¾ inch.
Most of them are multipurpose tools like Tig, stick welder and plasma cutter combo. They are very easy to set up and use. You don’t even need directions. The manual that comes with them is very easy to understand.
Most of these machines are portable. Some of them have a decent hand carrying weight. It’s like a painter’s handy tool. Even the torch size is quite small. This allows you to work in tight hard to reach space.
As long as you don’t use them for commercial purpose or a daily dose of heavy usage, you are good to go. As I have said before, these are made for Hobbyist and DIY enthusiast.
One of the most common problems with these tools is the additional stuff that comes with the package. While the machine itself doesn’t lack in quality, the accessories did seem cheap.
Another problem would be how fast they chew through your consumables. Especially the LTP5000D. It has an aggressive use of consumables. You can buy them only from the manufacturer, and they are not cheap.
However, a lot of third party sellers out there that can provide you with cheap alternative consumables. If you have proper airflow, you can reduce the cost by a lot.
It’s a good idea to keep extras when purchasing these cutters and welders.
1. How to operate a plasma cutter?
If you have never been to a welding school before, I would highly recommend you go there or to a person who has been there. Learning from a person will be way better than to learn online. With that being said, there are some small things that you can do to get started.
First of all, make sure you read the operating manual. It will have detailed instructions on how to set up your machine, which tools to connect, power voltage and all that.
Operating a plasma cutter is a whole new topic which is not relevant to this article, but I will be brief here so that you don’t get stuck on a fence.
Here is a list of things you can follow.
- Wear proper protective gears.
- Set up the cutter using a power cord with a proper power voltage. (110VAC or 220 VAC)
- Connect the tube to the compressor. You need to get one, some of the models above don’t have a built-in air compressor.
- Switch it on and turn the knob to adjust the electrical current level.
- Bring the tip of the torch to the metal that you are working on.
- Check the thickness of the metal and cutting current.
2. Is Lotos LTP5000D plasma cutter any good?
The LTP5000D is not a toy; it is designed especially for businesses and DIY (do-it-yourself) users at an affordable price.
You can make a multitude of DIY projects with this one like automotive designs, steel portraits, frame and farm repairs, metal signs or any engineered workpiece that your heart desires.
To get the most out of your plasma cutting machine, here is a list of things that you should consider purchasing.
- You’ll need an air compressor.
- An air hose with a quick female disconnect.
- A plug to fit a 110v/220v outlet because it doesn’t ship with one.
3. What is the length of the cutting torch and ground cable on the LTP5000D?
The cutting torch is 13 feet and the ground camp about 6 feet long.
4. What’s the recommended air pressure for cutting 1/8 or ¼ mild steel?
You should check the manual first. On the 5000D it should be 70 psi. But, I have found that 75 psi can get you a cleaner cut for 3/16 to 1/4. There are other factors that also play an important role like the type of metal, tip to the metal, clean tips, etc.
When working with thick metals, make sure to control your cutting speed. With thicker metals, you’ll get flashbacks which will foul your tips and can also reduce the lifespan of your tip.
5. What to do when you have a 220V plug but want to convert to 110V?
There are two ways you can do that. Either buy a heavy 110 plug or let the machine do all the converting.
I would prefer to use a plug adapter like the Coleman 09020 and let the machine handle the rest.
For home project people, Lotos is the top priority when it comes to affordable plasma cutters. There is a reason why Lotos pops up a “best of” lists mainly because these will give you the best value for money.
Hope this Lotos plasma cutter reviews article will take away your confusion and make your buying decision easier.
